Meridian School District #303 (K-12)
Alexandria, Daykin and Tobias consolidated into Meridian school in 1967. Facilities in the three towns were used until the new building was built in 1977. A fully certified staff offers curriculum to provide well-rounded education for grade school, junior high and high school students. A wide variety of extracurricular activities include football, basketball, volleyball, wrestling, track, speech, drama, music (band and vocal), and Future Business Leaders of America. Summer sports include girls softball and boys Legion baseball. In recent years, some students from Ohiowa, Western, and Fairbury have been attending Meridian. Bus routes pick up children in the morning and take them home in the afternoon.
New to the 2010-11 year will be a pre-kindergarten class for four year olds or will be of age by October 15, 2010. The class will be offered Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:10 a.m. to 3:44 p.m. on the days K-12 students are in session. Cost is $75/month per child. Parents are responsible for transportation but children may ride the bus if living on the bus route.
Zion Lutheran, located in rural Tobias, provides academic and religious education through eighth grade and students then transfer to Meridian for high school.
Southeast Community College, located in Beatrice, Ne., provides students the opportunity to continue education into college. Junior and seniors will be able to enroll for classes at Southeast Community College in several areas. Classes are for college credit only and are not included in GPA/class rank.

Fire & Rescue
The fire department, which contains 23 volunteer members, meets twice a month. The rescue team, which contains four volunteer members, meets one time a month. A new firehall was built in 2002. A new rescue unit was received in 2007. The firetruck and other equipment are fairly new. 911 is centered at the County Sheriff's Office in Hebron.

- Streets - Streets are mostly hard surface but some are graveled.
- Water - The water system is supplied by two wells dug in 1938 and 2004. Water storage is in an elevated tower.
- Sewage - The sewer system is a gravity flow lagoon system. The water and lagoon operator is Alan Krupicka.
- Telephone & Internet - Service is provided by Windstream. Other options are available.
- Electricity - Service is provided by Norris Public Power District, Beatrice, Ne.

The community center contains a kitchen and dining area which is attached to the gymnasium. The kitchen and dining areas were recently redecorated. The gym is scheduled for major repairs. Beautiful landscaping and flower beds, mature trees, children's playground, ball diamond, and tennis court are available. The community center is used for community events such as the Alexandria Alumni Banquet, Community Club's Meal/Melodrama, July 3rd celebration, EMT classes, hunter safety classes, community club meetings, and rural fire board meetings. The community center can be rented for reunions, anniversaries, receptions, and other occasions.
The Alexandria Senior Center is located at the Legion Hall in Alexandria which is 1/2 block south of the post office. Noon meals are served five days a week Monday - Friday except on holidays. This service is provided through Blue Valley Community Action. Food is prepared at Davenport Senior Center and delivered to Deshler, Chester, Hebron, Gilead, and Alexandria. The Library Board is reorganizing and will determine when the Alexandria Library will be open with help from volunteers. At the present time, the library is open by appointment only. Contact the Village Board.
